Top 3 Must-Watch Sporting Events This Weekend (Nov 8-9)

Some of the NFL’s most hotly contested divisions could see huge shifts after this upcoming weekend, with a clash between AFC powerhouses on the cards for Sunday Night Football. On the hardwood, two of the top teams in the East will do battle in the City of Brotherly Love, and across the pond, one of the great Premier League rivalries of the last 10 years receives another installment.

Premier League: Manchester City vs Liverpool

  • When: Sunday, November 9
  • Time: 11:30 AM ET
  • Competition: Premier League
  • Channel: Fubo Sports, USA Network

The two clubs responsible for the last eight Premier League titles will renew their rivalry this Saturday. This time around, they’re not jostling for the top spot, instead chasing an impeccable Arsenal side who have opened a six-point gap between first and second place. City is coming off an effortless thrashing of Bournemouth, stopping the Cherries’ hot start in its tracks. Premier League top scorer Erling Haaland will host his former team at the Etihad midweek, as Borussia Dortmund could easily trip up the Cityzens in the Champions League.

Liverpool hosted a red-hot Real Madrid side at Anfield and stunned them with a statement win, building on the momentum from their 2-0 weekend victory over Aston Villa. Once Slot’s team gets going, they may be quite formidable, but will new signings like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak finally make their impact felt against City on Sunday?

NBA: Detroit Pistons @ Philadelphia 76ers

  • When: Sunday, November 9
  • Time: 7:30 PM ET
  • Competition: NBA
  • Channel: Fubo Sports, NBA League Pass, FDSN Detroit, NBCS Philadelphia

A clash between two teams toward the top of the Eastern Conference will be a strong indicator of where Detroit and Philadelphia are, respectively. The Knicks bounced the Pistons in the first round of the playoffs, but Detroit looks even better in the early goings of the 2025-26 season. Cade Cunningham is becoming legitimately clutch, Ausar Thompson keeps improving, rookie Chaz Lanier looks legit, and offseason additions like Duncan Robinson and Javonte Green are already contributing.

Detroit was clearly trending in the right direction, whereas the Sixers have been one of the surprises of the season so far. Tyrese Maxey has been demonstrating why he was worth every bit of his max extension, while third overall pick VJ Edgecombe has rapidly emerged as one of the favorites for Rookie of the Year. That’s without Joel Embiid, Paul George, or Jared McCain back at full strength yet. Safe to say, there’s a lot to look forward to for Philly fans.

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Los Angeles Chargers

  • When: Sunday, November 9
  • Time: 8:20 PM ET
  • Competition: NFL
  • Channel: NBC, Peacock, NFL+

Pittsburgh is fresh off a landmark win over the hottest team in football, the Indianapolis Colts. The highest paid defense in the league is finally playing up to its price tag, an ageing Aaron Rodgers has still got it, and Mike Tomlin’s team have their eyes fixed firmly on the postseason, now sitting atop the AFC North.

On Sunday, they travel to SoFi Stadium to face a tough Los Angeles Chargers team. Jim Harbaugh’s men have battled through injury crises to keep themselves alive in the playoff hunt, and are right on Denver’s heels in the race for the AFC West. A win here, in primetime, against a tough opponent, should keep them on the right track.
