trivia

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the newest teams in the MLB, having been founded in 1998, playing in the American League East Division ever since. After calling Tropicana Field their home ballpark for the first 26 years of their existence, they moved over to George M. Steinbrenner Field in 2025, due to damage to their previous home. Whether you're looking to watch the Tampa Bay Rays live on TV today or planning ahead for future matchups, this guide will walk you through all the viewing options.

What Channel is the Rays Game on Tonight?

The majority of Tampa Bay Rays games are televised on FanDuel Sports Network Sun, the regional sports network that serves Florida and parts of the southeastern United States. FanDuel Sports Network Sun is also the broadcast home of other Florida-based teams, including the Orlando Magic (NBA) and Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL).

Fans will have to look elsewhere for nationally broadcasted games though, as these won't be available on FanDuel Sports Network Sun. These more high-profile games will be featured on one of the following, depending on the schedule:

  • ESPN: Select nationally broadcast MLB games and Sunday Night Baseball.
  • TBS: Tuesday Night MLB games throughout the regular season.
  • FOX: 20 Saturday late afternoon or evening games, and four Thursday night games.
  • MLB Network: 26 MLB Network Showcase games - blackout restrictions apply for in-market fans.

How to Stream Rays Games Online

If you are in the Tampa Bay region, you can stream FanDuel Sports Network Sun via the FanDuel Sports Network website or app. However, a TV provider login is required. If you do not have one of these already, we would recommend Fubo and DirecTV Stream, as these are the only services that carry FanDuel Sports Network Sun, while also offering ESPN, FOX, and TBS for nationally televised matchups.

If you're ever wondering how to watch the Tampa Bay Rays game tonight, be sure to check our MLB page for up-to-date listings.

If it is the full MLB schedule you are after, MLB.TV is the answer, giving you access to every single out-of-market game live. However, games that air on FanDuel Sports Network Sun will be blacked out for viewers within the Tampa Bay region. The good news? Full replays are available shortly after the conclusion of the game.

If you're not looking for a full-fledged cable replacement but still want access to some Rays games, there are several alternative streaming services that carry select MLB matchups:

  • ESPN+: One out-of-market game per day throughout the regular season
  • Roku: MLB Sunday Leadoff - Broadcasting early Sunday afternoon games during the regular season
  • Fox Sports App: Stream any games shown on FOX, but requires a TV provider login.
  • TBS Sports App: Stream Tuesday night games on TBS.
  • Apple TV+: Stream Friday Night Baseball exclusive games

Home of the Rays

The Rays play their complete home schedule at Tropicana Field, a domed stadium located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Originally known as the Florida Suncoast Dome, Tropicana Field has been the Ray’s home since their first season in 1998. The stadium is named for Tropicana Products which is located in nearby Bradenton.

Tropicana Field is the smallest MLB stadium in terms of seating capacity. Obstructed view seating is now covered with tarps leaving room for 25,000 fans for Rays’ games.

History of the Rays

After 10 straight losing seasons, Tampa Bay finally had a winning season in 2008. It was also the first time the Rays won the AL East Division. Tampa Bay would win the AL Division series over the White Sox and the league championship series over the Red Sox to advance to the team’s only World Series. Tampa Bay lost in five games to Philadelphia.

Since 2008, the Rays have won just one more AL East title (2010) and qualified for the postseason four times (2010, 2011, 2013, and 2019). Tampa Bay was an MLB wild card in 2011, 2013, and 2019.

With a short history, the Rays have just one player inducted into the Hall of Fame – Wade Boggs – who earned his trip to the Hall for his play in Boston where he spent 11 years. Third baseman Evan Longoria, who is still in the majors with San Francisco, spent the first 11 years of his MLB career with Tampa Bay. He was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2008 and a three-time All-Star. It was Longoria’s walk-off 12th-inning home run in the final game of the 2011 season that sent the Rays to the postseason.

Pitcher David Price was the first player selected in the 2008 MLB draft. In seven years in Tampa Bay, Price was a four-time All-Star. Posting a 20-5 record with a 2.56 ERA in 2012, Price was the AL wins leader and won the AL Cy Young Award.

Outfielder Carl Crawford was a second-round pick of the Rays in 1999. He made his MLB debut in 2002 and went on to play nine seasons in Tampa. Crawford was a four-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove award in 2010. Once a highly touted college football prospect, Crawford won the AL stolen base crown four times (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007).
