COLORADO ROCKIES

The Colorado Rockies were established in 1993 joining the National League West Division that season. Like NL West foe Arizona, the Rockies were quick to experience success making the postseason in just their third year of existence.

Surprisingly, Colorado has been to the postseason five times but has never won a division title. The Rockies are one of just two teams to have never done so. Their expansion partner – the Miami Marlins – is the other.

The Rockies play a number of games each season on national broadcasts on ESPN, FOX Sports, and the MLB Network. Regional broadcasts show nearly the complete Colorado Rockies schedule on AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain. Fans can live stream games using MLB.TV.

HOME OF THE ROCKIES

The Rockies first home was Mile High Stadium, which was originally a baseball stadium built for the Denver Bears. Colorado played just two seasons there before moving to their home at Coors Field. Located in lower downtown Denver, Coors Field is well-known as a hitter’s ballpark because of its elevation. Coors Field seats 46,897 fans for Rockies games with standing room available up to 50,144.

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

As mentioned, the Rockies made the postseason in their third season, 1995, after finishing one-game out of first place in the NL West. Colorado has never won a division championship, but has won an MLB league championship series.

The Rockies made the playoffs in 2007 after finishing second again in the NL West. They beat Philadelphia in the division series and Arizona for the pennant. Colorado was swept by Boston in the 2007 World Series.

Colorado has made the playoffs five times. In each case, the Rockies advanced by being an MLB wild card.

BEST OF THE ROCKIES

Larry Walker played 10 of his 19 MLB seasons with Colorado. He is the only member of the Baseball Hall of Fame wearing a Rockies cap on his plaque. Walker was a five-time All-Star, four with Colorado. He won the NL MVP in 1997 after he became the only player ever in MLB history to register a .700-plus slugging percentage and 30 stolen bases in the same season. Walker became the first player in over six decades to hit .360 or more in three consecutive seasons (1997-99). He won seven Gold Gloves and was the MLB batting champion three times (1998, 1999, 2001).

Todd Helton was drafted by Colorado with the eighth overall pick in 1995. He would go on to play his entire 17-year career with the Rockies. He was selected to the All-Star game five straight times from 2000 through 2004. Helton also won three Gold Gloves and four Silver Slugger Awards in that same time span. Helton, who was replaced as the quarterback at the University of Tennessee by NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, finished his career with 2,519 hits, 369 home runs, 1,406 RBI, and a career batting average of .316.

Current Rockies star Nolan Arenado has won a Gold Glove in all seven of his Rockies seasons. He is a five-time All-Star third baseman who has led the NL three times in home runs (2015, 2016, 2018).
