Best Sports on TV This Weekend (Nov 22-23): The Return of Club Football, NFL and NBA in Full Swing
Club football is officially back after the final international break of the year. With no more pauses until March, this weekend kicks off a packed stretch of domestic league action, including high-stakes rivalry games across Europe’s biggest competitions.
In the U.S., the NFL playoff race is heating up. Key matchups in both conferences could have major implications as teams jostle for position down the stretch.
Meanwhile, the NBA season is beginning to take shape. While it’s still early, elite teams are already distancing themselves from the rest of the league and this weekend’s games could say a lot about who’s for real.

A major Premier League rivalry headlines the weekend, with plenty at stake early in the season. In the NBA, key Eastern Conference clashes are already shaping the standings, while the NFL playoff race intensifies as teams battle for seeding down the stretch.

The Premier League returns from international break with a bang, with the first North London Derby of the season slated to take place on Sunday morning. Arsenal sits atop the table with a 4-point cushion and one of the best defenses in football. Their blockbuster summer transfer for Viktor Gyökeres hasn’t set the world alight, but what better stage than a rivalry game at the Emirates for him to get the goals flowing?
Aside from a win over Man City on matchday 2, Spurs have largely struggled in big games this season, although they have dropped the majority of their league points at home, so a trip to the Emirates could provide a change of pace. Unfortunately, injuries will significantly hamper both teams. Thomas Frank may have to engineer an improbable victory here without some of his key pieces: Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus, Pape Matar Sarr, and Randall Kolo Muani could all miss the derby. Arsenal will also be without stalwarts in Gabriel and Martin Odegaard, with Riccardo Calafiori trending towards missing the NDL as well.
NBA: Miami Heat @ Philadelphia 76ers

Two teams vying to remain in playoff contention in the East are presently making the most of their “transition” years. For the Heat, trading away Jimmy Butler in February drastically altered the makeup of the roster, but they were still able to rally and make the playoffs. Although it was ultimately a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, the Heat look much more legit this time around without taking too many big swings to stay competitive.
The Sixers, on the other hand, have been overperforming preseason expectations and have one of the most exciting rookies in the class in VJ Edgecombe, who has bounced back from a bit of a dip in spectacular fashion. That’s not even to mention Tyrese Maxey, who has been red-hot to open the season, and could give this Miami team a tough night.
NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Los Angeles Rams
- When: Sunday, November 23
- Time: 8:20 PM ET
- Competition: NFL
- Channel: NBC, Peacock, NFL+
The NFC South and NFC West champions from 2024 are on track to repeat their division wins this season, and will battle it out at SoFi Stadium in a game that could prove crucial for playoff seeding. The Rams are looking to extend their 5-game win streak in their pursuit of the top spot in the conference. If the Bucs could nick a win here, that would not only put a massive dent in LA’s dreams of a 1-seed but it would also strengthen their chance of hosting more playoff games in Tampa.
For Bucs QB Baker Mayfield, this is also a chance to show off for his old coaching staff, in front of the home crowd that witnessed him revive his career right before their very eyes just 3 years ago. The Bucs' injury crisis may have finally caught up with them, as this is poised to be a get-right game for Tampa after two straight losses coming off their bye.
