2025 PGA Championship Preview

Quail Hollow is no stranger to golfing drama, having hosted a tournament on the PGA Tour every year since 2003, aside from 2020, because of COVID. Its one and only major was the PGA Championship in 2017, which was won by Justin Thomas, who just so happens to have won already this season, edging out Andrew Novak to take the RBC Heritage.

Quail Hollow Course

Quail Hollow is a 7,600-yard, Par 71 with beautiful Bermuda greens, and the course is most well known for its lethal ‘Green Mile’, which refers to the tricky three holes that players have to navigate to get home safely. There is water danger surrounding each of these greens, which means, if you’re leading down the stretch, your mettle will be tested.

Thankfully, the short par-4 14th, which is just 344 yards, gives the golfers a fantastic opportunity to birdie, and with the distance that some of these guys drive the ball, some will be eyeing up a two. If you can find a good score here, then the Par-5 15th gives you a great chance to double up the fun and take another shot off your score, before having to enter the Green Mile. This closing stretch will likely be the difference when it comes to crunch time.

Predictions and Odds

Golf fans couldn’t have asked for a much better build-up to this tournament. Rory McIlroy ended his decade-long major drought a month ago at the Masters. World number 1 Scottie Scheffler has just landed his first win of the season. Justin Thomas, the last major winner here at Quail Hollow, has also secured a win already this season, and Bryson DeChambeau got a win last time out on LIV. The world’s best golfers are on fire, and getting them all together at a course as good as Quail Hollow is going to be a lot of fun.

Unsurprisingly, it is Scheffler (+450), McIlroy (+500), and DeChambeau (+1200) leading the way with the bookies, as undoubtedly the three hottest golfers in the world at the moment. All three stand to put up a good fight, but Rory McIlroy is the standout name, considering he has won at this course four times already, and got the job done here last year.

The reigning PGA Championship winner, Xander Schauffele, is tied in the betting market with Bryson at +1200. He had an injury earlier in the season but has rounded into form nicely, remaining one of the top golfers in the world, and very much on top of his game. Ludvig Aaberg, the up-and-coming Swedish golfer, is +1600, having played three days of brilliant golf at Augusta a month ago, before crumbling on the last few holes to ruin his final position.

Jon Rahm (+1600) had an opposite experience at the Masters, playing himself out of contention on day one, before finishing strong to get inside the top 15. However, his major form has been lacking ever since he joined LIV, never quite settling back into the form that made him world number one a couple of years ago. Perhaps the best value betting-wise is Justin Thomas. You can get the last major winner here at Quail Hollow at +2000, which is not bad at all considering his form at the moment.

How to Watch the PGA Championship

For golf fans who have cut the cord, this segment is here to make sure you catch every single swing. Thanks to an array of streaming services and standalone platforms, watching all the action from Quail Hollow has never been easier. The primary channels you need are ESPN, for early coverage, and CBS and Golf Channel for late coverage. These channels can be found with all of the following providers:

TV Streaming Services

Fubo Sports (starting at $84.99 per month)

Fubo Sports is a mighty fine upgrade for any sports fan, perfectly covering you for the PGA Championship with CBS, ESPN, and Golf Channel, alongside a wide array of other channels as well. This means, golf fans can enjoy all the major golf action you want, whilst also being able to catch MLB, NBA, NFL, and college sporting action. Add in unlimited DVR and a silky smooth navigation system, and you have a fantastic upgrade to your overall TV experience.

YouTube TV (Starting at $82.99 per month)

YouTube TV has over 100 channels for you to choose from, including the all-important channels for your weekend of PGA Championship action. Sports fans will also be enticed by the Sports Plus Package, which allows users to add on NFL Redzone, Fox College Sports, Fox Soccer Plus, and much more.

Hulu + Live TV (Starting at $81.99 per month)

Hulu is the best platform for PGA Championship live streaming, as it comes with ESPN+ included. This will max out your access to the PGA Tour with additional coverage, in addition to Hulu coming with a massive portfolio of other sports and entertainment channels. Disney+ is also included, which is another bonus, however, you are limited to two simultaneous streams.

Live Streaming Platforms

If you are after a cheaper and less comprehensive TV streaming solution, then these standalone platforms will give you some access to the PGA Championship.

ESPN+ (Starting at $11.99 per month)

ESPN+ is a great option for fans with a deeper love for the game, allowing you to tap into hours of extra coverage and on-demand content. During the tournament itself, ESPN+ will showcase early coverage, or fans can tune into featured groups or holes.

Paramount+ ($7.99 per month (Essential) or $12.99 per month with Showtime)

Another great budget option is Paramount+, which is the streaming service affiliated with CBS. This means that it will give you access to any coverage carried by CBS, which covers the all-important weekend rounds. You won’t get to watch every swing of the tournament, but you will be covered for crunch time, making it a great budget option for fans who don’t need access to every tournament.

Cable and Satellite Options

Of course, streaming services aren’t the only big names in town. There are still plenty of options if you are sticking to the cable or satellite route. All of the following providers include ESPN and CBS within their extensive channel portfolios, alongside a wide array of other sports and entertainment options.

ESPN

ESPN hosts the first two rounds of the PGA Championship and will show the early coverage of the weekend rounds. Unfortunately, ESPN does not get the crunch hours to close out the weekend rounds, but their bolt-on ESPN+ does get coverage of 35 tournaments across the PGA Tour calendar.

CBS

CBS owns the broadcasting rights for the weekend coverage of 20 PGA Tour tournaments per year, including the PGA Championship. This is where you will catch the final pairings and the emotional celebrations that come with the trophy lift on the final green shortly after.
