Houston Texans 2025 Season Preview: Star Players, Key Matchups & Where to Watch

Houston Texans 2025 Season Preview: Star Players, Key Matchups & Where to Watch

Although their record may have improved yet again in 2024, the on-field product in Houston was far from inspiring. For all of the hype, the synergy of their veteran signings and young blood, the Texans underdelivered on expectations last season.

A mix of injuries and a sophomore slump for CJ Stroud foiled their plans, meaning that ahead of the 2025 season, it is difficult to know what to expect from Houston.

They have some big games on their schedule that will test this roster’s mettle early in the campaign, and see if they are destined for greatness, or still a ways off competing for hardware.

đŸ“ș Top 5 Must-Watch Texans Games in 2025

🏈 Week 1 (Sept 7) - @ Los Angeles Rams

CBS/Paramount+, 4:25 PM ET

A homecoming game for CJ Stroud, who will do battle with one of the league’s best veterans in Matthew Stafford. The Rams are a solid NFC playoff team, so this game will make each roster’s level clear early in the season.

🏈 Week 2 (Sept 15) - vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

ABC/ESPN, 7:00 PM ET

First primetime game against one of 2024’s very best offenses. It’s AFC South champion vs NFC South champion, and a chance for the Texans to down another non-conference opponent.

🏈 Week 5 (Oct 5) - @ Baltimore Ravens

CBS/Paramount+, 1:00 PM ET

The Ravens are truly the team to beat in the AFC during the regular season, and for the 2025 Houston Texans, could prove a huge road upset going into their bye week.

🏈 Week 12 (Nov 20) - vs Buffalo Bills

Prime Video, 8:15 PM ET

Houston got the better of Buffalo in 2024, but both of these teams will be angling for a higher playoff seed this late in the season.

🏈 Week 14 (Dec 7): @ Kansas City

NBC, 8:20 PM EST

For their last away game of the season, the Texans will make the dreaded trip up to Kansas City, where they came up short in last year’s playoffs. Revenge here would be huge for playoff seeding and momentum heading into the home stretch.

🌙 Texans in Prime Time: When to Tune In

  • Monday Night (MNF) Games
    • Week 2 vs Tampa Bay
    • Week 7 @ Seattle
  • Thursday Night Football (TNF) Games
    • Week 12 vs Buffalo
  • Sunday Night Football (SNF) Games
    • Week 14 @ Kansas City

Houston similarly had 4 primetime games in 2024, when they went 2-2. The only team that finished the season with a winning record out of those four was the Detroit Lions, so Houston will have an even tougher primetime gauntlet in 2025. None of their opponents in these nationally broadcast games are from the AFC South, confirming its place among the weakest divisions in all of football.

🧠 Final Thought: Can they reach the AFC Championship game?

Houston is no longer a plucky underdog; they’re back-to-back division champions. They may not have too much competition for that title yet, but in order to progress further in the playoffs and earn more respect across the league, they’ll have to prove that they can hang with the big boys throughout this season. With a lot to prove, CJ Stroud will have this offense firing on all cylinders in 2025.
