American players in Europe – Season 2020/21

Weston McKennie – Juventus (2 games)

22 years old, born in Little Elm, Texas. Weston McKennie joined the German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 in 2017 and went on to make 75 league appearances for a team that has been struggling in recent years. McKennie was one of few positives for Schalke 04 and did the central midfield position to his own during the last three seasons in Germany.

This summer Weston McKennie moved on to one of the European giants, Juventus. With Andrea Pirlo as new manager and a generation of young players coming through McKennie has been starting the first games of the season, creating a central midfield together with Adrien Rabiot.

Tyler Adams – RB Leipzig (2 games)

Tyler Adams came to Germany and RB Leipzig from NY Red Bulls in 2019. The defensive midfielder has been a strong component in an RB Leipzig side that has impressed us in both Bundesliga and Champions League in recent years. RB Leipzig has started the season in good fashion with two wins and one draw which puts them in first place. Next game coming up after the international break is Augsburg away, a side that has surprised most experts by picking up seven points, same as RB Leipzig.

Giovanni Reyna – Borussia Dortmund (3 games, 1 goal)

When talking about Americas next big star it’s hard to not mention Giovanni Reyna, only 17 years old. The offensive midfielder har started season 2020/21 in an impressive way with one goal and four assists. In a side with players like Haaland, Sancho and Thorgan Hazard there will be a lot of opportunities to score and assist for Reyna who’s still waiting for his first international cap.

Christian Pulisic – Chelsea FC (1 game)

Christian Pulisic did his first appearance for Chelsea this season in the London derby against Crystal Palace last week after some time at the sideline due to a hamstring injury. The 22-year-old midfielder will play a vital part in Chelsea this season when they look to finish among the top 4 in Premier League.
