Top 3 Must-Watch Sporting Events This Weekend: October 4-5th

NFL surprises, MLB playoff openers, and a tighter Premier League race headline this weekend’s must-watch action.

Event Date & Time Channel
NFL: Broncos @ Eagles Sun, Oct 5 – 1 PM ET CBS, Paramount+, NFL+
Premier League: Chelsea vs Liverpool Sat, Oct 4 – 12:30 AM ET NBC, Universo, Peacock
MLB: Brewers vs Cubs/Padres Sat, Oct 4 – Time TBD TBS, MLB.TV

NFL: Denver Broncos @ Philadelphia Eagles

  • Day: Sunday, October 5th
  • Time: 1 PM ET
  • Channel: CBS, Paramount+, NFL+

Philadelphia hasn’t played the prettiest football in their Super Bowl defense, but it’s been effective. As one of only two unbeaten teams, the Eagles have ground out tough wins through four weeks and now host a Denver squad fresh off a big Monday night victory over the Bengals. That win gave the Broncos much-needed momentum and breathed life into an offense that had stalled early in 2025.

Bo Nix looked sharp against Cincinnati, but he’ll need his very best to crack this Philly defense. On the other side, the Eagles’ offense has done just enough under first-year playcaller Kevin Patullo, rarely shifting out of second gear. With Denver’s strong defense lining up, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles face a serious test on their road to 5-0.

Premier League: Chelsea vs Liverpool

  • When: Saturday, October 4th
  • Time: 12:30 AM ET
  • Channel: NBC, NBC Universo, Peacock

Liverpool may be leading the pack already, looking strong in their title defense, but there have been some notable chinks in the armor. For one, they just lost their first game of the season against Crystal Palace, before losing against Galatasaray in the Champions League. Not exactly the kind of momentum they would have hoped for ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Blues bounced back from an embarrassing 3-1 loss to Brighton at the weekend by downing Benfica in the Champions League midweek. They desperately need to make up for their early stumble in the league, and got the better of Liverpool the last time the two sides met in May.

MLB Postseason: Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs/San Diego Padres

  • When: Saturday, October 4th
  • Time: TBD
  • Channel: TBS, MLB.TV

After making the playoffs in 7 of the last 8 seasons, Milwaukee took a huge leap in 2025. Pat Murphy’s men set a franchise record with 97 wins, making them the very best team in baseball. The Brewers have been a model small-market franchise, as they’re better positioned than they ever have been to make a run at winning their first World Series. They’ll have to get past the Cubs/Padres first, though.
