MLS 2021 – Western Conference

The Western Conference kicks off on April 16th with two high-octane games, Houston Dynamo vs San Jose Earthquakes and last season’s Conference Final, Seattle Sounders vs Minnesota United. The opening weekend then continues with a number of games on Saturday and Sunday, finishing of with Vancouver Whitecaps vs Portland Timbers.

The regular season is scheduled to run through November 7th as the MLS Cup Playoffs begin on November 19th and finally the MLS Cup 2021 on December 11th.

The 2021 season will see one big change as the number of teams in the Western Conference increase to 13 when Austin FC enters the MLS. Austin FC will be playing their games at the Q2 Stadium which is planned to open up in June. Josh Wolff will have the honor of leading the new team as head coach.

Looking at the winner’s odds ahead of the 2021 season it’s a clear dominance by the Eastern Conference. Only Los Angeles FC and Seattle Sounders make it top 7 as the bookmakers list their favorites to win the MLS Cup 2021. Seattle Sounders has been experimenting with different formations during the pre-season and head coach Brian Schmetzer hopes to find a way back to the success they had in 2019. The Sounders has reached the MLS Cup four times in the last five seasons, an incredible record that proves how strong side they are.

The favorites to win the MLS Cup ahead of the new season are Los Angeles FC who’re making their 4th MLS season. The team is led by Bob Bradley who’s been managing LAFC since 2017. It will not be the first time that LAFC is believed to make it all the way, though they have failed to do so in the last three years. Diego Rossi was a key player for them last season with 14 goals in 19 games and will have to remain on top in the absence of Bradley Wright-Phillips who joined the current MLS champions, Columbus Crew SC. Los Angeles FC begin their season on April 17th as they go up against Austin FC.
