Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles: Stafford’s Road Production Outweighs the Rams’ Record
Matthew Stafford’s production has survived Puka Nacua’s absence, and the Rams may get their top target back. A short spread makes Los Angeles the preferred side despite real turnover risk.

Recommended pick
The Rams’ record obscures consecutive high-output passing games against a demanding early schedule, while Philadelphia enters on a short week with protection questions.
The offense traveled
Los Angeles carried a 16-0 halftime lead into the locker room at Denver on Sunday night and still left with a 30-26 loss. The collapse matters, especially with Matthew Stafford throwing two interceptions, but the Rams’ passing offense again looked much better than their 1-2 record suggests.
Stafford threw for 403 yards and two touchdowns without Puka Nacua, one week after producing 327 yards and four scores against the Giants. Davante Adams has supplied 332 receiving yards across those two games, and Konata Mumpfield added a 48-yard touchdown in Denver. This is no longer an offense waiting for Nacua to rescue it.
Los Angeles expected Nacua to return against Philadelphia barring a setback. Adding him to a passing game that has already generated consecutive explosive performances raises the Rams’ ceiling enough to look past the raw record, particularly when their losses came against San Francisco and Denver rather than the bottom of the league.
Pressure on Philadelphia
Philadelphia’s secondary is the strongest argument for taking the home underdog. Jayden Daniels and Cam Ward each finished below 200 passing yards in the Eagles’ first two games, while Quinyon Mitchell and Riq Woolen allowed four catches for 37 yards on eight targets against Tennessee. Stafford will not get the same easy access he found during stretches of the past two weeks.
The turnovers are also a legitimate concern. Stafford has thrown an interception in every game, including the pick-six that helped Denver erase Sunday’s deficit. Laying points with a quarterback coming off a two-interception night requires some restraint.
The matchup becomes more favorable for Los Angeles closer to the line of scrimmage. Cam Jurgens moved to left guard while Drew Kendall started at center in Tennessee, and tackle Fred Johnson was ruled out of Monday night’s game in Chicago. His Week 4 status is not yet known. Myles Garrett will remain out for the Rams, but Aaron Donald’s return still gives Los Angeles an interior disruptor against a unit working through new combinations.
Philadelphia also has one fewer recovery day after playing on the road Monday night. That does not decide the handicap by itself, but it adds weight to the Rams’ advantages in passing depth and preparation time.
Keeping the field goal
The over at 46.5 is tempting after the Rams combined with Denver for 56 points, but Philadelphia’s coverage and the uncertainty surrounding both teams’ injured pass catchers make the total less attractive. The Rams moneyline at -134 also asks for too much compared with laying less than a field goal.
My projection is Los Angeles 27, Philadelphia 23. That leaves room for another competitive Eagles performance while recognizing that the Rams have created 884 passing yards over the past two games without their top receiver. Los Angeles Rams -2.5 at -106 with Caesars is the selection.
