Charlotte FC vs Philadelphia Union
Our pick Over +3.5 Total / -106 / 2.0 units

Philadelphia’s multi-source attack and Charlotte’s ability to answer deficits meet in a short-rest spot where the side prices demand more certainty than the total.

Philadelphia has multiple routes to goal

Philadelphia’s 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake extended its winning streak to seven matches, but the more useful detail for this total was how many players drove the attack. Cavan Sullivan assisted both goals, taking him to 21 goal contributions and a league-leading 14 assists. Milan Iloski reached 17 league goals, while Bruno Damiani has scored six times during the winning streak.

That depth helps explain Philadelphia’s 20 goals across its last five matches. Four of those games produced at least four total goals, with the Union scoring four or more each time. This is no longer an attack dependent on one finisher or one type of chance; Sullivan’s creativity is feeding two productive forwards, with Frankie Westfield and Kai Wagner also supplying width.

The current MLS availability report lists only Agustin Anello out for Philadelphia. Saturday’s status report could change after the midweek trip to Chicago, but the primary attacking pieces entered Wednesday available.

Charlotte can push the pace

Charlotte’s 3-2 win over Dallas supplies the other half of the argument. Down 2-0 in the 64th minute, Charlotte scored three times in 26 minutes, with Idan Toklomati striking twice to reach 11 goals for the season. It was impressive attacking resilience, though falling two goals behind at home also exposed the defensive risk attached to backing Charlotte at Subaru Park.

Charlotte has scored 10 and allowed eight over its last five matches, with both teams finding the net in four of them. Its 5-5-3 away record also suggests this is a visitor capable of contributing rather than simply defending the box and hoping to survive.

Both clubs face road assignments Wednesday — Philadelphia at Chicago and Charlotte at Columbus — before playing their third match in a one-week span Saturday. Rotation and tired recovery runs can create the transition chances needed to clear a high total.

The strongest objection is the series history: all five recent meetings stayed below four goals. Only one, however, came during this Philadelphia scoring surge, and the Union’s current attacking form deserves more weight than older low-event matchups.

The total offers the cleaner price

Philadelphia’s moneyline at -170 requires roughly a 63% win probability. That is demanding against a Charlotte side sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference, four points above the Union before Wednesday’s matches. Philadelphia’s form is stronger than its table position, but the price leaves little protection against a draw.

The spreads are not more attractive. Philadelphia -1.5 at +120 needs a two-goal victory against a Charlotte team whose last five results were either draws or one-goal decisions. Charlotte +1.5 is directionally reasonable, but -168 is too much juice for a visitor facing an attack this hot.

My projection is 3.8 total goals, with 3-1 and 2-2 the most plausible score shapes. The intervening Wednesday matches create lineup uncertainty and keep this from being a larger position, but the recent attacking output and compressed schedule make Over 3.5 goals at -106 with BetRivers the best available wager.
