NFC South 2022 Division Winner Odds

NFC South 2022 Division Winner Odds

Will this be Tom Brady’s last NFL season or do we see him in another franchise next season? Whether he decides to play on or retire, we can expect Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to be in contention for the Super Bowl trophy when it’s time to wrap up this season. Along with the Saints, the Buccaneers have dominated the NFC South for the last couple of years and we see no reason why this trend should change. Two superb teams with a strong and solid foundation gives us few reasons to doubt their chances of reaching the playoffs.

The Panthers and Falcons will face two divisional opponents superior to themselves. Even though some improvements can be shed in both franchises, it’s too soon to take up the fight with two of the best teams in the NFC.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were tied with the Packers for the best team during the regular season last year. With a 13-4 record the Buccaneers once again showed their dominance as they easily cruised to the playoffs. Well in the playoffs, the Eagles were an easy target in the wild card playoffs (31-15) but surprisingly that was as far as the Buccaneers reached as their playoff campaign came to halt against the coming Super Bowl champions, LA Rams.

Considering the Buccaneers only lost to three teams last season, swept by the Saints and losses against the Rams and Commanders, they got a win total projection of 11.5 this season which is one of the tougher lines of all teams in the league. We are confident, however, that the Buccaneers won’t be worse off this season and can't see how they’re going to let the Saints sweep them for a consecutive season. Assuming an additional win against the Saints compared to last season, 11.5 wins should be a fair task to overcome.

What could be held against the Buccaneers is their difficult playing schedule which ranks as one of the most challenging in the whole league. If it was any other team, this would have been a major key and perhaps enough reason to lean to the under. The Buccaneers, however, present enough qualities to fight any challenge off and we believe the 2022 season will be another season where we will see Tom Brady deep into the playoffs.

Win total projection odds:

Over 11.5 (-110)
Under 11.5 (-110)

New Orleans Saints

The Saints had a mixed season last year which started well with five wins from the first seven games, only to reach a low between game 8 and 12 when they didn't win a single game. Thanks to a strong finish, the Saints picked up three out of four wins, but this was not going to be enough to earn a spot in the playoffs. Otherwise, the Saints have been a major force to count on in the NFC South, having won the division championship for four consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2020.

Last season got spoiled much due to Jameis Winston sitting out for more than half the campaign. With Winston back on the pitch at the end of last season, the Saints looked sharper and therefore should be able to improve significantly during this season with their quarterback in place. The Saints’ defense is ranked as one of the best in the league and will be a tough challenge for most teams in the league to break down.

The win total projection for the Saints is 8.5 which was their record of the 2021 season. We predict an even better side this season and find great value in the over here. With quarterback Winston returning and another offseason to work this team together, the Saints should be pushing for the playoffs and perhaps even give the Buccaneers a fight for the division championship.

Win total projection odds:

Over 8.5 (+105)
Under 8.5 (-125)

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers won't be anywhere close to the Buccaneers and Saints this season. After a promising start of the last season with three out three wins, the Panthers only managed to win two of the remaining games which had them finish bottom of the NFC South. Something similar to last season’s record wouldn’t come as a surprise.

Coach Matt Rhule is favored to be the first coach to get fired this season and while this is certainly not always the case, it tells something about the situation that the Panthers are in. Another issue for the Panthers is the quarterback position and whether Sam Darnold is good enough or not. While he was trying to play through last season with an injury, his performances didn’t impress. Matt Corral, the Panthers’ quarterback rookie, can perhaps get the chance to come on for Darnold if the number one continues having a tough time on the pitch. Whether Corral or Darnold have enough qualities to carry this team is a major doubt and therefore we lean to the under.

Win total projection odds:

Over 5.5 (-130)
Under 5.5 (+110)

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons managed to hit 7 wins last season but are having a win total projection of only 4.5 this season. With other words, a considerable regression is expected and while we can see the reasons behind such prediction, we still lean to the over. The Falcons is not a weaker team since last season and three wins less in 2022 compared to last season is a bold pick.

Quarterbacks Mariota and Ridder will call the signals this season and even though we’re not completely sure about either of the two’s ability to lead this team, it should be enough to line up at least 5 wins. Mariota is a fully capable NFL quarterback and Ridder has the potential to reach higher levels if given the opportunity to play.

Despite a relatively challenging playing schedule we see the Falcons having enough opportunities to pick enough wins to reach the over. Can they sweep the Panthers, as we believe they’re capable of, and then find another three wins throughout their campaign, which is much possible, then the line is reached and we correct the bet as a win.

Win total projection odds:

Over 4.5 (-105)
Under 4.5 (-115)

NFC South Odds

The Buccaneers are clear favorites to win the NFC South division this season and it’s hard to argue. A team led by Tom Brady will always be tipped to go far and reaching the playoffs is almost considered as an obligation with a roster as strong as the Buccaneers. The Saints will have one or two things to say but in the end we expect the Buccaneers to win the NFC South. At BetMGM, you can back Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to win the NFC South at -300 while an upset by the Saints pay +375.
