How We Evaluate Football Betting Sites

In What States Are Football Betting Sites Legal?
Online football betting is legal in 30 US states plus Washington DC as of 2026, but the sportsbooks available to you depend on your location. California, Texas, Georgia and Minnesota still don’t have legal online sportsbooks, meaning none of the football betting sites on this list can be used there.
State rules can also affect which football markets are available. Some states prohibit college player props, while others restrict betting on in-state college teams. As a result, the markets you see for the same Saturday slate can differ depending on where you’re betting.

Fanatics is available in 23 states plus Washington DC, but is app-only, so bettors who prefer following a full Sunday slate on desktop will need another option.

NFL vs. College Football Betting Sites
A sportsbook that works well for the NFL isn’t automatically the one I’d choose for college football. NFL betting is player-focused, with deep passing, rushing, receiving and touchdown props alongside Same Game Parlays.
College football is a different exercise: dozens of games run at once, spreads reach into the thirties in a way they never do in the NFL, and the gap between a top-ten program and an unranked opponent creates lines you simply don’t see on a Sunday.
Availability differs too. College player props are restricted in several states, so the menu you see depends on where you’re betting. That’s why I look at NFL and college coverage separately when comparing the sites on this page.

How Sportsbooks Settle Football Bets
Football has several settlement rules worth knowing, particularly for player props, overtime and parlays.
Player props and injuries
At sportsbooks including BetMGM and FanDuel, a player prop has action once the player takes a snap. If he doesn’t play at all, the bet is normally voided.
Some sportsbooks offer extra injury protection. Fanatics Fair Play can void qualifying NFL props when a player is injured early and doesn’t return. DraftKings Early Exit offers comparable protection, though the terms differ by bet type, with singles credited and parlay legs voided and recalculated.
NFL vs. college overtime
NFL regular-season overtime lasts up to 10 minutes, with both teams given an opportunity to possess the ball. Games can still end in a tie. College overtime gives each team a possession from the opponent’s 25-yard line, makes a two-point conversion mandatory from the second overtime, then switches to alternating two-point attempts from the third.
This matters for totals, as college overtime can add points much faster than NFL overtime.
Voided parlay legs
A voided leg in a standard parlay is usually removed and the odds recalculated using the remaining selections. Same Game Parlay rules can differ by sportsbook, so check the house rules before betting.
