Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is a tournament with a long history having been played since 1938. The golf tournament takes place on TPC Louisiana in Avondale and is usually held in springtime. The players compete in pairs of two where the invitations are made by the tour ranking system. The tournament is making use of two playing formats, alternate shot and fourball.

The tournament begins on Thursday, 22nd April, and will run through Sunday. After two rounds are played the top half of teams will proceed to the third and fourth round. The cut line in the tournament is 35 teams.

Alternate shot

Alternate shot is a playing format where a pair of golfers competes as a team and alternates hitting the ball until it’s in the hole. The pair decides on who’s going to hit the opening ball and then the other player continues by hitting the second shot. The player who hit the opening ball on the first hole will do the same on nr 3, 5, 7 and so on while the other player will do the opening shot on nr 2, 4, 6 etc. It’s up to the players to decide the order in which they’re going to play.

Fourball

The other format being used on the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is fourball. Fourball is a format where both players in the team play the hole, with their own golf balls. This means there’re a total of four players, two teams of two, who’re playing on the same hole. The best score by the players in each team will count towards the team score.
