Tournament info
The 2021 US Open will be the 121st edition of the tournament as the first US Open was held back in 1895. It’s one of the four major championships during the golf season, with the other ones being the Masters, PGA Championship and Open Championship.
The US Open is recognized for being a tough course to play where the winner is usually sealing the victory with a score around par. There has been an American dominance in the US Open history and since 1950 there has only been six other countries apart from the US that have managed to win the tournament.
This year’s edition will be played at the Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course) in San Diego, California. Last time the US Open was held at the course was back in 2008, then with Tiger Woods as the winner. The south course is one of the longest courses that’re being used in the regular PGA Tour measuring 7,698 yards.
The 156 players featuring at the US Open will begin round one on Thursday. After the second round is played on Friday there will be a cut and the top half positioned players continue playing round three and four on Saturday and Sunday.
The majority of the world’s golfing elite will be participating in the US Open, including previous winners as Bryson DeChambeau (2020), Gary Woodland (2019), Brooks Koepka (2018 & 2017) and Dustin Johnson (2016).
Previous US Open Champions
2020 – Bryson DeChambeau, -6 to par
2019 – Gary Woodland, -13 to par
2018 – Brooks Koepka, +1 to par
2017 – Brooks Koepka, -16 to par (All-time record)
2016 – Dustin Johnson, -4 to par
Our best picks to win the 2021 US Open
As any other year this edition of the US Open is extremely hard to predict and pick a winner. The field is made up of the best players in the world and it will all come down to who’s having the best form of the day. One player to look out for however is Brooks Koepka who’s managed to get second or better in his last three US Open appearances. Another strong name when it comes to the US Open is the world’s no. 1, Dustin Johnson. After having some less impressive performances in the previous majors Johnson will be eager to prove his qualities at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. In his last seven US Open starts he has managed to finish T-6 or better five times.
