What is the NFL?

The NFL consists of 32 teams, divided into two conferences (the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference), each with four divisions (North, South, East, and West).

During the regular season each team plays 16 games over 17 weeks, with one bye week. The regular season usually starts in early September and ends in late December, with the playoffs beginning shortly thereafter. The top seven teams from each conference advance to the playoffs, with the top team from each division qualifying along with three wild card teams.

The playoffs consist of four rounds, with the winners of each conference advancing to the Super Bowl, which is the biggest sporting event in America and is typically held on the first Sunday in February.

The NFL is a highly competitive league, and teams are constantly striving to improve their rosters through free agency, trades, and the annual NFL Draft, which is held each April. The draft is a major event, with teams selecting college players in hopes of adding future stars to their rosters.

The NFL also hosts a number of annual events, including the Pro Bowl (an all-star game featuring the league's top players), the NFL Scouting Combine (where college prospects perform a series of physical and mental tests in front of NFL coaches and scouts), and the NFL Draft.
